Mukteshwar is a lovely village in the Uttarakhand state of India, with an elevation of 2,285 m above sea level. Mukteshwar got its name from a 350-year-old temple Mukteshwer Dham, which houses Lord Shiva as its main deity.
The stunning and beautiful views from the top of Mukteshwar Temple's mountain are incredible. On the veterinary institute's campus, the village gets its name from a 350-year-old Shiva temple known as Mukteshwar Dham, which is located on the highest point in town.
The forests and hills stretch into the distance, towards the Mahi River delta, which is home to about 60 species of birds. Close by are the towering cliffs, locally known as Chauli-ki-Jali, where rock climbing and rappelling are popular. Mukteshwar is well-known for its windy waterfalls, including The Bhalu Ghada Waterfall, Tarikhet Waterfalls, Rudradhari Waterfall, and The Dhokaney Waterfall.

History of Mukteshwar

The Mukteshwar Mahadev Dham, which was built in the 12th century, is responsible for the name. The temple was put up by the Pandavas during their banishment. After worshiping the Goddess Mother, Chintpurni, the Pandavas selected this picturesque and tranquil area for their residence.
The three brothers carved five caves and resided here for six months, praying to a Shivling they had created, hoping to obtain God Shiva's blessings in order to win the future conflict that they felt was inevitable.
Mukteshwar, previously known as Muktesar, was renowned for its temples and shrines until 1893. Following 1893, this town was chosen as a vaccine production center to keep livestock from contracting the cattle plague.
To make segregation and quarantine of highly infectious species easier, the Imperial Bacteriological Laboratory chose to move from Pune to Mukteshwar, under the urging of the Cattle Plague Commission.
The laboratory at Mukteshwar was finished in 1898, but it was destroyed by a fire the following year. In his book Man-Eaters of Kumaon, Jim Corbett describes his visits to Mukteshwar and includes intriguing stories from his adventures there.

Travelling to Mukteshwar was an amazing experience. It's a good place for those who want to relax and spend their time in the nature. There are couple of activities around like trekking and some mountaineering sports. There are few hotels but staying with the locals and having the recipes prepared by them is the best option for those who prefer budget travel. It almost cost around Rs 3000 including stay, food and travel from delhi bus station. You can take a bus from Anand Vihar at 9 pm (Ticket: around Rs 265/-) and travel to Haldwani. After reaching Haldwani there is a bus which leaves to Mukteshwar at 7 am in the morning and the ticket costs around 80 Rs only. Please note that there is only one bus which leaves in the morning. After reaching Haldwani, you can go for home stay which includes food and accommodation in more reasonable rate. Just check for the weather conditions before planning for this trip.

I went to mukteshwar with my friend and it turned out to be the best place I have ever been. The best parts there are ofcourse the high mountain ranges, rocks, hills, beauty and many more. Nothing is the worst part except highly charged taxies. I would recomend everyone to atleast visit this place once. This place is near by to Nanital about 50 Km which is also an awesome place.
